Nindya Nareswari (b. 1989) is an Indonesian light designer and artist who based in Berlin, Germany.
Her fascination with light began in 2008 during the second year of her bachelor degree in product design at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Indonesia. In 2010, an internship at Sakai Design Associate in Japan sparked her interest in materiality, while her time at Ingo Maurer in Germany ignited her passion for light art. Pursuing her passion further, she earned a master’s degree in Architectural Lighting Design from Hochschule Wismar in Germany, completing her studies in 2014.
Her artistic practice delves into themes of human perception and ephemerality, using light as a universal yet profoundly personal medium to reevaluate how we engage with the world. At the core of her practice lies an experimental approach around the nature of time and space. She contrasts the intangible qualities of light with tangible materials to create ever-changing patterns, movements, and colours that challenge our visual perception.
Her work ranges from light sculpture and light photography, to set design and light installation. Her Bamboo Lamp was nominated for the Indonesian Good Design Selection 2010. Nareswari’s artworks have been exhibited internationally including a group exhibition at Memphis Gardens, Melbourne (2018), Instrumenta Festival at National Gallery of Indonesia, Jakarta (2019), a site specific commission for Berlin Fashion Week (2019), as well as Il Pianeta Festival, Milan (2021).
She is available for freelance and collaboration projects.
