REVONTULET

Revontulet is a Finnish name for the northern lights or aurora borealis. Aurora is the most magnificent natural phenomenon that I have been admiring until now. When I was a child, I had a dream to see aurora with my own eyes. The dream moved me on to learn further about Aurora and becomes my inspiration to design this luminaire.

The purpose of the design is to expose the shadow that released from the light. The design describes a uniqueness of northern lights which is a contrast with the complexity of the landscape underneath. I applied it by exploring light effects from two kinds of material which have a quite distinct character. They are wood sheet (natural) and expanded metal mesh (artificial).

Both have an obvious different light effect but become a beautiful harmony at the same time, as well as the landscape when the Aurora is clearly visible.
